Tottenham Hotspur acquired some offensive help Wednesday, securing the services of Dutch midfielder Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven for £27 million.
Bergwijn, a 22-year-old Dutch international that has been capped nine times over the last two years, has spent his entire career in the Eindhoven system. The season, Bergwijn has played in 16 matches with five goals.
For his career, the winger has scored 31 goals in 149 appearances. In addition, he scored 14 goals with PSV’s reserve side.
He is signed with the Tottenham through June 2025.
The signing couldn’t come at a better time for Spurs, who have lost Harry Kane for most of the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury, while selling Christian Eriksen for £16.9 million to Inter Milan on Tuesday. In other words, a good portion of the North London side’s offense is in the trainer’s room, or en route to the Italian giants.
