While the playoffs are definitely in sight for the Revolution first team, Revolution II’s playoff hopes in USL League One came to a close Sunday night following Union Omaha’s 2-1 win over first-place Greenville Triumph.
The win for Los Buhos put Omaha at 26 points (7-3-5) and second place with one match to play. Los Revitos are currently seventh with 18 points (5-6-3) and two matches to play. Even if New England wins out (at South Georgia Tormenta Wednesday, at Forward Madison Saturday), it cannot topple Omaha’s point total.
Up until Sunday night, this weekend’s results in League One went in New England’s favor: After drawing, 1-1, to defending champion North Texas SC on Friday night, Los Revitos’ playoff hopes could have been dashed had Richmond knocked off South Georgia Tormenta on Saturday evening.
Marco Micaletto’s first-half stoppage time goal was the only goal Tormenta needed to beat the Kickers, 1-nil.
In addition, Chattanooga and Forward Madison drew, 1-1.
Only third-place Richmond and fifth-place North Texas have the ability to beat Union Omaha’s point total, as both have a match in-hand on the Owls. Richmond travels to last-place Orlando City B on Wednesday morning, while North Texas plays Forward Madison on Wednesday night.
On Saturday, Richmond plays host to Chattanooga, while North Texas is host to Tormenta. Omaha hosts Fort Lauderdale Saturday night.
