The Revolution were the first unseeded team out of the bowl Thursday, and The Boys In Blue will take part in Group C of the MLS Is Back Tournament along with seeded side Toronto FC, Montreal Impact, and fellow Original Ten outfit DC United.
The 20-minute long draw was held on MLSSoccer.com, with Revolution ambassador Charlie Davies doing the honors of drawing the teams and putting them into groups.
Orlando City, as the host team, was automatically drawn into Group A and will open the tournament on July 8 with its first-ever match against fellow Sunshine State side Inter Miami FC, which had been placed into Group A earlier Thursday afternoon.
In addition to the Lions and the MLS newboys in Inter, NYCFC, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Nashville SC — moved to the Eastern Conference for the remainder of the 2020 season — round out the group.
Toronto, which headlines Group C, found the Revs picked first, followed by defending Canadian champion Montreal — the team New England played in the season opener — as well as DC United.
In Group E, Atlanta United was paired with FC Cincinnati, the Red Bulls, and Columbus.
In the Western Conference, reigning MLS Cup champion Seattle Sounders takes on FC Dallas, Cascadia rival Vancouver, and San Jose in Group B, while Real Salt Lake headlines Group D with Sporting Kansas City, Colorado, and Minnesota United.
In Group F, LAFC takes on El Traffico rival LA Galaxy, Houston, and Portland.
The top two teams in each group, along with the top four third-place finishers, will advance to the knockout phase of the competition. Matches will be played at 9 am., 8 p.m., and 10:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on MLS television partners, with a full schedule announced in the coming days.
