Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner has been called into the US Men’s National Team camp for January 2020, one of four goalkeepers called in by coach Gregg Berhalter.
The January camp begins this Sunday, January 5, and will last through Saturday, February 1 in Qatar, where the Yanks will get a look at the facilities for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and prepare for the first friendly of the new year, which will be against Costa Rica.
As such, Turner is expected to miss the start of preseason training for the Revs, which is expected to begin on Friday, January 17.
This is the New Jersey native’s second straight call-up to Berhalter’s squad, as he received an invitation to join the national team in November. He was available for selection in the US’s CONCACAF Nation’s League tilts with Canada and Cuba, but did not see game action and is currently uncapped.
Turner was 8-4-7 during the Revolution’s turnaround this past season following a start where former coach Brad Friedel had curiously sat him in favor of Brad Knighton and Cody Cropper. Yet from Saturday, May 11 until the end of the season, Turner was the week-in, week-out No. 1 ahead of both.
