New England Revolution Revs II

Final: Revolution II 1, Orlando City B 0 — Rennicks heads New England ahead in 46th, holds on rest of the way

THE TEAMS: Revolution II at Orlando City B
THE SITE: Osceola County Stadium, Kissimmee, Fla.
THE TIME: 11 a.m.
THE SKINNY: Brunch time soccer! Los Revitos are in the Sunshine State today, and they’ll look to avenge a 2-0 defeat to the Little Lions back on August 7. And there’s a pretty good chance of that happening, given Orlando’s current run of form.

We’re underway in the Sunshine State. Your starting lineups and benches are live, and your match notes are below the match feed. Updates are periodic.

5′ Revs with most of the ball in the opening minutes, trying to be creative.

7′ Corner to the Revs.

9′ ALMOST for Sinclair at the far post as Presley crosses in, he hits it just wide.

11′ First corner for the Little Lions…. comes to nothing except another corner.

12′ And a third.

13′ Tablante skies it.

16′ Foul by OCB, free kick for the Revs some 25 yards from goal.

17′ Firmino puts it over the bar.

18′ Shot by OCB’s Tablante ripples the side netting.

23′ Shot by Firmino goes wide left.

24′ Tablante with the shot goes wide after a whiff. Orlando beating Spaulding on that left-hand side a few times.

30′ Save by Rice. Orlando looking dangerous.

31′ Free kick to the Revs, outside the box.

32′ Spaulding puts it over the bar. Hydration break.

35′ Break over, back underway.

38′ Orlando with the slice through the defending, goes for naught…. Rivera is booked for a tackle on Firmino.

39′ Tablante with the shot after he counters, wide of the far post. He had taken it away from Presley and went out on the counter.

41′ Mendonça gets under it and sends it wide.

42′ Williams is booked for fouling JR.

43′ Corner to the Revs.

44′ Sinclair with a shot, looks like a save by Aviza.

45′ Three minutes minimum added on.

45+1′ Well measured shot by Firmino. Probably too well measured.

Sweens’ Halftime Thoughts and some numbers:

Revs had a good amount of the ball, especially early on, but have nothing to show for it. Revs need to slow Orlando down; there was a period where OCB has had really good chances. Revs chances have been OK, and they are taking their sweet time in trying to challenge Aviza.

51.9 percent of the ball, 8 shots, 2 on-target

Second Half Underway

46′ Amer out, Fablo on for Orlando City. Revs II get us underway…. GOAL REVOLUTION II, and that’s goal No. 2 for Justin Rennicks! Key in that sequence was Tiaga Mendonça overlapping with Quinones and crossing to Orlando Sinclair. Sinclair lays it off, and Rennicks heads it out of Aviza’s reach. 1-nil to Los Revitos.

49′ Corner to the Lions, Rice corrals the loose ball.

51′ Big save Aviza on Rennicks. Should have been 2-nil.

52′ Big Save Rice, but the rebound goes to Rivera, who fires wide.

54′ Presley with an off-balance drive.

56′ Tablante is down after he took a ball off Bell’s foot.

57′ Presley off, Rivera on. First Revs II sub. Williams off, Monticelli on for Orlando.

59′ Free kick to the Revs out on the flank.

64′ Rice is down and getting treatment. Concerning for New England. Meyer will come in. Rice is favoring his right ankle. He’s back down.

66′ They have to carry Rice off on a stretcher, so it may a while before we see him again this season.

69′ Tablante blocked by Spaulding…. other way, shot by Maciel, save Aviza.

70′ Tanaka comes in for Lamb. Gluvacevic on, Tablante off. That’s all five subs for Orlando City.

71′ Shot by Orlando wide right.

72′ Bad turnover by Orlando in its defending third. And another one. Rivera is thrown to the turf in the box, no call…. Firmino gets into the box, Aviza sliding stop.

73′ Corner to New England…. Firmino puts it into the side netting.

74′ Corner to Orlando City. Cleared.

76′ Hydration break.

78′ Malango checks in for Rennicks, Fujiwara for Maciel.

79′ Back underway…. Rivera’s shot is blocked, corner to the Revs.

82′ Rotis goes into the book for Orlando.

83′ Corner to New England.

85′ Corner to Orlando. Malango with the theft!

88′ Foul by Quinones, and it’s a hard one. No card, not even a telling off.

90′ Corner to the Revs. Seven minutes minimum added on.

90+2 Quintero gets a telling off for a foul on Spaulding.

90+3′ Shot by Rivera, save by Aviza.

90+4′ Corner to the Revs.

90+5′ Mendonça has a go, Aviza gets a hand on it. Corner to the Revs on the other side.

90+6′ Malango with the shot, save Aviza.

For Revs II:

Rice; Spaulding, Bell, Verfurth, Quinones; Maciel, Firmino, Mendonça; Presley, Sinclair, Rennicks
Bench: Meyer, Souza, Shimazaki, Silva, Rivera, H. Fujiwara, Malango

For Orlando City B:

Aviza; Halliday, Williams, Rosales, Rosario; Amer, Guske, Quintero; Rivera, Tablante, Lamb
Bench: Otero, Monticelli, Rodas, Aguilera, Jr., Fablo, Gluvacevic, Tanaka

Revs II are coming off a 2-0 win over Union Omaha from a week ago. Justin Rennicks opened his account on a counter, Nicolas Firmino added the winner in second-half stoppage time, and Firmino had a beauty of a goal taken away.

Orlando’s 2-0 win over the Revs on August 7 was its only win of the season, and the Little Lions haven’t fared so well since: its current run of form is L-D-D-L-L. At 1-5-3, OCB is two points adrift of the Revolution in 11th.

No new injuries or changes as to status for Revs II. Juan Ramos, Ignacio Poplawski, Nick O’Callaghan, and Adam Ozzeri are listed as OUT for OCB.

A win today won’t necessarily change Revs II’s place in the League One table, but other results going their way this weekend can be a help. North Texas lost to Greenville, 1-nil, Friday night. Fort Lauderdale plays later tonight.

Orlando has been idle for a while, as they had last week’s match with Richmond postponed due to a positive COVID test. It is 0-1-3 at home, and this morning’s match is Orlando’s first home match in three weeks.

No too sure if we will see Medway native Austin Aviza today like we did when he played at Gillette on August 7. Mason Stujduhar has been in front of the onion bag for the last three Orlando City B matches, making 11 saves in the last 270 minutes. UPDATE: Aviza starts.

Wilfredo Rivera leads the Lions with two goals.
