Former Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen has signed with Vietnamese side Ho Chi Minh City FC, the V.League 1 club announced early Christmas morning Boston time.
Contract details were not announced in the club’s Instagram post. Nguyen signed on a free transfer, having been out of contract with the Revolution after the 2020 season.
Nguyen is incredibly familiar with the V.League. In moving to Ho Chi Minh, Nguyen, who turned 34 this past October, will mark his second stint in the Vietnamese top flight. Following time spent with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven and Danish side Randers, the Plano, Texas native make his V.League 1 debut with Hoáng Anh Gia Lei in January 2009.
Nguyen made 24 appearances and scored 13 goals with 16 assists, before he moved to Becamex Binh Duong. He scored once in 20 appearances, with injuries limiting him before he returned to the United States and Major League Soccer.
In Foxborough, Nguyen became a legend in the Revolution midfield, as he scored 52 goals and 50 assists, the last helper coming on a Teal Bunbury goal at New York City FC this season to become the first Revolution player to reach the 50-goal, 50-assist milestone. His first stint with the Revs had ended poorly, with Nguyen sitting out the first three and a half weeks of training camp in 2018 before moving to Los Angeles FC on May 2.
He returned to Foxborough in September.
