Former Revolution forward and midfielder Juan Agudelo signed with 2020 MLS newcomer Inter Miami FC on Saturday, ending speculation about the New Jersey native’s future plans.
Agudelo’s contract option with the Revolution was not picked up a month ago, making the former US international a free agent. He entered the league’s Re-Entry Draft, and found himself selected by Toronto FC earlier this month.
Toronto sent Agudelo’s rights to Inter in exchange for a third round 2021 SuperDraft selection.
The 27-year-old Agudelo originally came to Foxborough in 2013 and helped New England reach the playoffs that season. But after signing a pre-contract agreement to go to Stoke City in England, he failed to receive a work permit and instead was loaned to Dutch side FC Utrecht.
He returned to the Revs in 2015, and played a further five seasons in the home Navy Blues. He had signed a new contract with the club prior to Christmas last year, and during this past summer had moved into a defensive midfield role as part of New England’s summer surge.
Agudelo scored 35 goals for the Revolution with 16 assists.
