WHAT’S UP: This afternoon, we’ll discover which group the Revolution will find themselves drawn into ahead of the resumption of play in Major League Soccer.

Sweens here at The New Farm, rocking and ready to go with the draw.

Draw Procedure

According to the league, there will be six groups: one group of six Eastern Conference teams — Nashville SC has been moved to the Eastern Conference for the remainder of 2020 — as well as two groups of four in the East, and three groups of four in the West.

Orlando City SC has already been drawn into Group A, the six-team Eastern Conference group. Atlanta United and Toronto will head up Groups C and E, depending on the results of the draw.

The Revolution are unseeded, and can be drawn into Groups A, C, or E.

NEW (2:24 p.m.): Inter Miami was also drawn into Group A, as it will play Orlando in the competition’s opening match on July 8.

LAFC, Seattle, and Real Salt Lake are the seeded teams for the West, and will be drawn into Groups C, D, or F.

The 11 unseeded East teams and the 9 unseeded West teams will be assigned to groups in the following manner, beginning with the Eastern Conference:

The names of each of the 11 unseeded East teams are each placed in a ball and the 11 balls are mixed up in a pot.

The 11 balls are then numbered “1” through “11”.

A representative from the seeded team in Group A (Orlando City) picks a number at random between 1 and 11. The team name in the corresponding ball is assigned to Group A as “A2”. The designated representative of the Group C seed will then take a turn to do the same, followed by the Group E seed’s representative. The sequence of turns is repeated until every unseeded East team is assigned a group slot.

The names of the 9 unseeded West teams are each placed in a ball and the 9 balls are mixed up in a pot.

The 9 balls are then numbered “1” through “9”.

Representatives from each of the Group B, Group D and Group F seeds take turns picking a number at random between 1 and 9. The team name in the corresponding numbered ball is assigned to that seed’s group. The sequence is repeated until every unseeded West team is assigned a group.
